An incredible Juneteenth celebration

We were honored to participate in the Alice Moore Black Arts and Cultural Center !

The event kicked off with a vibrant parade made up of our community partners and sponsors, with the school district, Albany High School, Giffen Memorial Elementary School and North Albany Middle School also represented. Festivities continued outside Giffen with wonderful performances by the Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School jazz band, vocalists from Albany High, a fantastic show by our Giffen Gatorettes and so much more!

A huge thank you to everyone who made this amazing event possible!

MBK fellows posing for a photo

Levi & Thompson named MBK Fellows

Two Albany High School rising seniors — Yehudah Levi and Jah'Quinn Thompson — have been named as My Brother's Keeper Fellows for 2026!

"It is a great honor to stand amongst my brothers and represent Albany High as a fellow for MBK," Thompson said.

"I think it's an opportunity to really grow as a leader, as a brother, as someone in the community that can be relied on," Levi noted.

Throughout the next year, these two remarkable Falcons will be matched with a mentor in government, education or business. In addition, all fellows are required to develop and carry out a service project related to a New York MBK initiative.

Noah Bizer on the podium

Bizer finishes fourth at states

Congratulations to Albany High senior Noah Bizer for finishing fourth in the Class A 800-meter run at the New York State Outdoor Track and Field Championship!

This was the fifth consecutive sports season that Bizer competed at the state level, an amazing achievement.

After running the seventh-fastest 800 in Section 2 history and breaking a 31-year-old Albany High record at the state qualifier meet, Bizer ran a solid 1:54.2 race in an extremely competitive heat at the state championships. Out of the 53 best 800 runners in New York, he placed 13th overall.

Bizer will continue his running career at Amherst College this fall, competing in both cross country and track and field.

Legal Lives students interacting with staff

Legal Lives is a success!

You’re never too young to plan for your future, and now some of our students can add a career in the law, criminal justice or law enforcement to their options thanks to our Legal Lives partnership.

Since fall, representatives from the Albany County District Attorney’s Office have been working in partnership with fifth-graders at Albany School of Humanities, Montessori Magnet School, Pine Hills Elementary School and Sheridan Preparatory Academy to introduce students to the legal process – including the importance of diversion programs and community outreach.

All four schools met at the Albany County Judicial Center in early June for a closing ceremony and tour.

We are grateful to District Attorney Lee Kindlon and his staff for reviving this excellent program in our schools!

Blood drive student and staff coordinators

Smashing goals, saving lives

Albany High senior Anya Miller successfully facilitated her third and final blood drive of the year. Thanks to Miller's advocacy, dedication and enthusiasm, our three community blood drives resulted in 189 pints of blood donations this year!

The goal for the June drive was 57 pints, and we ended the day with 71 — an outstanding achievement!

Athletics College Commitment Ceremony

We are thrilled to announce that 27 seniors officially committed to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level!

On June 2, Albany Athletics hosted a joyous gathering to mark this amazing moment and wish our graduating seniors the absolute best in the next season as competitive athletes.
