William S. Hackett Middle School returned to regular security measures at about 12:35 p.m. Thursday. The school had been in a secure lockout since 9 a.m. while police investigated a threat toward the school. Police determined the threat was not credible.
The threat originally was reported to the school Thursday morning by the parent of a Hackett student who was not in school. The parent reported to us that their child received the message via a direct message on Facebook.
Our school and district security staff worked in partnership with the Albany Police Department to investigate, and it was determined that it was not a credible threat. The investigation remains ongoing.
We will follow our Student Code of Conduct in relation to this matter if any of our students are found to have been responsible or involved.
We appreciate your patience and support while we followed these precautionary steps to assure the safety of everyone in our school community. As a reminder for everyone in our school community, if you see something, say something – please report anything that makes you feel unsafe or uncomfortable immediately to a school official or another trusted adult.
