Fifth-graders in Djemila Stevens’ Dual Language Program teamed up with Kristen Backes’ Newcomer Program class on Monday for a “Totally Thankful Friendsgiving” feast.
The menu went way beyond turkey, gravy and mashed potatoes – students shared empanadas, sheba, cantaloupe soup, pierogies and a rainbow of international dishes representing the cultures in both classes.
Adding to the fun, the kids created “turkeys in disguise” centerpieces, sneaky birds decked out in costume to dodge dinner plates. And they finished up the meal discussing the things they’re thankful for: family, school and each other!
