Albany High senior Garrison Goldman (pictured left with Prinicpal Jodi Commerford) has been named a semifinalist in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Competition!

Goldman earned this designation due to his exceptional score on the 2025 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT). This exam was taken by 1.2 million juniors from approximately 20,000 high schools nationwide, and less than one percent of seniors are entered into the National Merit Scholarship Program. 

Additionally, we congratulate Albany High seniors Jude Caton, Nathaniel Pupons, Devin Wheeler, Miriam Ustin and Evelyn Shirer for receiving Letters of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. This recognition was granted to 34,000 high performers on the 2025 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT). 

As a semifinalist, Goldman has the opportunity to continue in the competition by submitting a scholarship application in collaboration with an Albany High administrator, showcasing the his academic record, participation in school and community activities, leadership abilities, employment and honors and awards received.

Of the 16,000 semifinalists, approximately 15,000 are expected to be eligible for the 6,700 National Merit Scholarships worth $24 million that will be awarded in the spring.
