Thanks to the hard work and dedication of Albany High senior Lyra Stetzer (pictured left), our first blood drive of the school year was a huge success!

During yesterday's drive, 73 units of blood were collected, including 12 Power Red donations. It was truly incredible to see students, alumni, school district employees and community members collaborate for the shared purpose of providing a life-saving resource.

Stetzer's older sister served as a student blood drive coordinator during her time at Albany High, which motivated and inspired her to carry on the family tradition. 

"It's just such an easy way to make an actual difference in people's lives," Stetzer stated. 

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our donors, including Superintendent Joseph Hochreiter and Board of Education Vice President Sridar Chittur, Ph.D. We also are excited to share that fifteen staff members donated yesterday, as well as Albany High graduate and former student blood drive coordinator, Elizabeth Powell!

Stetzer's community service will help her earn scholarship funds from the American Red Cross. Albany High junior Daniel Penna also was a huge support during yesterday's event, along with our amazing Albany High blood drive club adviser, Alicia Abdul (pictured right).
