The city’s school speed-zone cameras will be back in full operation when the new school year begins Friday in the ongoing effort to increase safety for children, families, school staff and visitors, and all pedestrians traveling near schools.
The school-zone speed limit is 20 mph.
Speed-zone cameras will be in operation from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. on school days near the following City School District of Albany schools:
- Albany High School, 700 Washington Ave.
- Albany School of Humanities, 108 Whitehall Road
- Arbor Hill Elementary School, 1 Arbor Drive
- Eagle Point Elementary School, 1044 Western Ave.
- Giffen Memorial Elementary School, 274 South Pearl St.
- New Scotland Elementary School, 369 New Scotland Ave.
- Pine Hills Elementary School, 41 North Allen St.
- Roots Academy at West Hill, 676 Clinton Ave.
- Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School, 100 Elbel Court off Whitehall Road
- Thomas O’Brien Academy of Science & Technology, 94 Delaware Ave.
- William S. Hackett Middle School, 45 Delaware Ave.
Speed-zone cameras also will be in operation once again near several of the city’s charter, private and parochial schools. Motorists caught by a camera speeding in a school zone will be mailed a $50 violation per offense.
