Thanks to the Falcon Market and Grassroot Givers, a group of graduates from the Class of 2026 are arriving at college well-equipped for their new academic journey!
Over the past few weeks, Albany High piloted a new "college essentials program" at the Falcon Market in collaboration with Grassroot Givers, a local non-profit organization that creates opportunities for individuals and families in Albany by providing access to books, clothing and home essentials.
The "college essentials program" spearheaded by Grassroot Givers is an innovative effort to secure like-new items from recent college graduates so they can be passed along to students pursing higher education. In addition to re-homing small appliances and household goods, Grassroot Givers also solicited both in-kind and monetary donations to provide brand-new supplies for students beginning college this fall.
Albany High School administrators and counselors helped identify a group of college-bound Falcons to participate in this new program, and it was heartwarming to see the impact!
Our recent graduates had the opportunity to shop for dorm supplies, free of cost, in our Falcon Market. Grassroot Givers provided a robust inventory of new and like-new items, such as sheets, towels, laundry baskets, small appliances, personal hygiene items, cleaning supplies, fans, lamps, kitchen supplies, bathroom and shower accessories, backpacks, school supplies, decorations and more!
The program was a huge success, and we hope to expand the outreach to a larger group of graduates next summer through a continued partnership.
