With heat advisories in place for the afternoon and evening hours Thursday and Friday, we would like to share the following information and reminders.
Air conditioning systems in all of our schools will be running on 24-hour cycles for the rest of the week, and we encourage all employees and students to wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when the weather is extremely hot.
Staying hydrated also is a priority when the weather gets as hot as the forecast is calling for Thursday and Friday.
All field trips scheduled for Thursday and Friday will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, with appropriate precautions in place for those that continue as scheduled. Schools with field day activities planned Thursday and Friday will reschedule for another day.
We will continue to monitor our building HVAC systems, and will remain prepared to alter our schedules if there are equipment malfunctions or problems with the electric grid due to stress on that system during this heat wave.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory from noon-8 p.m. for both Thursday and Friday. The forecast calls for the heat index – a combination of air temperature and humidity – to be in the high 90s on Thursday and above 100 on Friday.
When the heat index rises above 90, outdoor activities at school will be limited to 10-15 minutes. When the heat index reaches 95 or above, all activities at school will remain inside.
