Save the date: Special Education Family Empowerment Conference

The City School District of Albany's Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) invites parents and caregivers to participate in the organization's first annual Special Education Family Empowerment Conference.

It is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28 from 9 a.m.-noon at the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) located at 375 Ontario St.

A speaker from Disability Rights of New York will provide guidance on the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and what it means for your child's rights as a student.

Additional speakers include a representative from Parent to Parent of New York State and an educational advocate discussing transition planning and why it should begin in middle school. Presentations will be followed by an open forum for Q&A.

Target audience: Capital District parents, caregivers, school professionals and advocates

This is a free in-person event that aims to enhance the skill set of the participants, and offers the opportunity for attendees within and across local school districts to meet each other.
