Three candidates will compete for two open seats in the City School District of Albany Board of Education election May 20.
The terms of two current board members expire at the end of June -- President Sridar Chittur, Ph.D., and Vickie Smith. Dr. Chittur is seeking re-election to a third term; Smith is not seeking re-election.
Two additional candidates submitted the required nominating petitions in advance of the April 30 filing deadline: Edith Leet and Austin Wolfgang.

Virtual candidates' forum May 17
The League of Women Voters of Albany County will hold a virtual candidates' forum on Saturday, May 17 beginning at 10 a.m.
You can watch the meeting live via Microsoft Teams and submit questions to the League of Women Voters in advance up until midnight May 15. League representatives will select questions to ask the candidates from those submitted in advance.
The board election will be held in conjunction with the district's annual budget vote May 20. The two candidates receiving the most votes will begin four-year terms July 1.
